Guernsey quartet to take on London Marathon

A team of four runners is hoping to raise £10,000 for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People when they take on the London Marathon.

Toby Peatfield, Tristan Brown and Sarah Wright who work together at Ravenscroft will be joined by Toby’s son CJ for the iconic London event on Sunday 21st April. They are all raising money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People which trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds such as smoke alarms, alarm clocks and baby monitors.

Having run the Jersey Marathon last year, CJ was the first to commit to the race and persuaded his father Toby to join him as a way of celebrating his 60th birthday. Toby has run 14 marathons around the world but hasn’t taken on 26.2 miles for 15 years.

‘We have both been training hard over winter and are looking forward to enjoying the atmosphere in London. It is a great charity and we have set ourselves an ambitious fundraising target and are hoping that the Guernsey community will support us,’ said Toby.

Tristan has previously run three different marathons – Guernsey and Barcelona in 2023 and then a third in December when he joined rugby legend Kevin Sinfield as part of his 7in7in7 challenge which raised £1.1 million for the MND community. He plans to run the Guernsey marathon the week before with the aim of a sub three hour on the home route and is four weeks into a 12-week training plan of 40-55 miles each week.

‘For London I’m hoping to enjoy the experience a bit more so am aiming for 3hrs 10. Everyone I speak to says about how amazing an experience it is. I got a taste for what it feels like to have decent sized crowds in Barcelona so I’m expecting this to give an even bigger boost which I’m sure will be needed towards the end! Finishing along the Mall will be a cool experience.’

This will be Sarah’s first London marathon having previously completed Paris, Manchester and Guernsey twice.

‘I ran Manchester last year and while training never goes exactly to plan, I am hoping to complete it in just over four hours. London is such a famous marathon and I’m excited to take it on but am most looking forward to seeing the finish line!’

Sponsorship can be made online or dropped into Ravenscroft at 20, New Street.
